Google did not accept my identity document

Your payments stay on hold until Google verifies your identity. Most rejections come from a name or country that does not match your payments profile, or a photo Google cannot read.

Updated October 15, 2026

What happens while you are not verified

When Google asks you to verify your identity, it places a temporary hold on your payments, and it cannot remove that hold until your identity is verified. [1] [2]

You have 45 days from Google’s first request to submit your documents. After that, if you have not sent them or Google still cannot verify you, it stops showing ads on your pages. [3] [4]

Address verification with a PIN comes only after your identity is verified. [5]

The usual reasons and how to fix them

The name does not match: check how your name is written in your account and correct it there before you send your ID again. [6]

The country does not match: Google only verifies an ID issued in the country of your payments profile. Your country guide lists the documents Google accepts there. [7]

The document is not accepted: send an official document issued by a government institution, such as a passport, a driver’s licence or a national identity card. [8]

Google could not read it: capture the whole document, with all 4 corners, clear and in focus, and send both sides of a two-sided document. [9] [10]

The document shows you are under 18: you must be at least 18 to take part in AdSense. [11]

Before you try again

Google allows only a limited number of attempts. If it cannot verify you, it tells you and invites you to submit again, so fix the cause first. [12] [13]
