Who has to provide tax information
Every monetising YouTube creator must give Google tax information, wherever they live. [1]
For AdSense on websites, not all publishers are required to provide tax information. [2]
How much is withheld
The rate depends on whether your country has a tax treaty with the US: without one, Google withholds 30% of your earnings from viewers in the US. [3]
If an individual provides no tax information, Google applies backup withholding of 24% of total earnings worldwide. [4]
Deadlines and renewal
Missing tax information is one of the reasons Google holds payments. Submit it before the 20th to be paid in the same month. [5] [6]
Tax forms expire at the end of the third full calendar year after the year you signed them. [7]
This page explains Google’s rules, not your own tax position. A qualified tax adviser in your country can tell you whether a treaty applies to you and what you owe at home.
Paragraphs without a source number are our own explanation or advice, not a statement by the provider.
This is general information, not financial, legal or tax advice. Providers change their terms; check the linked official page before you act.
