My PayPal account is limited

A limitation stops some actions, such as withdrawing money, until you complete the steps PayPal asks for. PayPal emails the reason; the steps are in your account.

Find out why

If PayPal limits your account, it sends you an email with the reason. [1]

In most cases PayPal’s customer service cannot remove a limitation over the phone. [2]

Open PayPal yourself (type the address, do not follow links in messages) and look for the steps it asks you to complete. Emails that ask for your password or a code are not from PayPal.

Documents

A document you upload must show all 4 corners of the page. [3]

You need to resolve the issues on your account before PayPal can remove the limitation. [4]

How long it takes

Once you have completed the required steps, PayPal’s review usually takes 3 business days. How long a limitation lasts depends on the complexity of the case. [5] [6]

We cannot remove a hold, unlock an account or speed up a payment, and we have no access to any provider’s systems. We will never ask for your password, a verification code or your card number.

Paragraphs without a source number are our own explanation or advice, not a statement by the provider.

This is general information, not financial, legal or tax advice. Providers change their terms; check the linked official page before you act.
